APPLY TO BECOME A BETA READER
I regularly receive a lot of feedback and criticism. The problem is that most of the time, I don't receive this feedback until after the book is already done, when I won't be going back and changing anything and have long since stopped caring about it.
However, if you're opinionated and of a literary persuasion (i.e. you know how to read), I'd like to hear from you. Specifically, I'd like to hear from you before the book is released.
In other words, I am looking for beta readers! (Hence the title of this page.)
So if you'd like to read one of my novels while they're still in a crappy early draft and help improve the final product, use the form below to apply!
Important things to know before applying:
- I often have fairly tight deadlines and turnaround times for novels. I generally budget up a maximum of two months for beta readers to get back to me (one month or less is better). If you take too long, or don't respond at all, I'll have to drop you.
- I try to stick to a regular yearly schedule, and I do all my editing in the first half of the year. You can generally expect to receive a draft at the end of April, sometimes in March and I'll need it back by June at the latest. I'll let you know if I have more specific timeframes for each project.
- I'm looking for constructive feedback. If I don't feel your feedback is helpful or up to standard, you will be disinvited from participating in future.
- It's probably a good idea to only do this if you're generally interested in the type of stuff I write. I know everything is subjective, but there's probably no point in critiquing my existential horror novel when you're mostly into, say, cozy YA romantasy novels.
- Anything I send you, even early drafts, is protected by international copyright laws. If you try to steal my work, I will find you and I will sue you into a cardboard box. (And that's if you get off lightly.)
- I reserve the right to accept, reject, decline or delay an application for any reason whatsoever. I'll try not to be a dick (key word is "try") but something things just happen. We live in a chaotic and meaningless universe.
- No, you won't be paid for this. Sorry. I'm not made of money and even if I was, this is not something I'd spend it on.
